Gastro 1/6 @ RMA

Feeling ravenous one lazy morning, my foodie friend Bianca and I set out in search of great brunch. It was something I hadn't explored much in Bangkok ~ instead trading my Bloody's and bacon for strange new street food or rice-based breakfast dishes ~ and I was determined to find the best of best. Based on a recommendation from BK Asia, we set out in search of Gastro 1/6 @ RMA, a cozy garden café on Sukhumvit Soi 22.

And when I say search - I mean search. We got so lost trying to find this hidden little place! Google Maps and the restaurant's Facebook directions proved to be no help. A Thai family had to call the restaurant for us to fully communicate the directions when we wound up on their front steps completely lost.

Luckily it was worth the wait. And as hungry as we were, we liked that we could just go straight up to the walk-up window to put in our order rather than waiting around for a slow server.

As a vegetarian, Bianca was impressed with the number of options on the menu and ultimately decided on the Poached Eggs with Mushroom Truffle Oil and Asparagus. Topped with parmesan flakes, this savory dish was elevated with organic eggs, a side salad and toasted multigrain bread. A must-try for mushroom lovers.

The never-ending sweet or savory debate crippled my decision-making for a while until I finally settled on something that would give me the best of both worlds ~ French Toast with Fruits & Honey and a side of homemade Cumberland sausage. I was so excited to finally have REAL sausage in Asia - not just the hot dogs they try to pass as sausage - that I couldn't even finish the large portion of fluffy french toast that came along with it. At first I thought it might be weird to have tropical fruit on French toast, but this dish proved me wrong with every bite.

We got to enjoy the green garden setting primarily to ourselves on a sunny weekday morning, feeling no need to rush when we got settled in. It's the kind of place where I'd love to just curl up with a good book and while away the hours hidden away from the rest of the world.
